RELATING TO ELECTIONS -- PARTY CONVENTIONS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 17-12-13 of the General Laws in Chapter 17-12 entitled "Party |
2 | Committees and Conventions" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
3 | 17-12-13. State conventions. |
4 | There shall be held not later than October 14 of every even year a state convention for |
5 | each political party. The nominees of a party for senator and for representatives in congress, for |
6 | the five (5) general offices, and for membership in the general assembly shall be delegates to the |
7 | state convention of that party. In presidential election years, these conventions shall select the |
8 | party nominees for presidential electors and their names shall be placed on the ballot for the |
9 | forthcoming election. The state convention shall be for the purpose of adopting a platform for its |
10 | party and for the transaction of any other business that may properly come before the convention. |
11 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
