S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE HONORABLE COLLEEN M. HASTINGS ON BEING

SELECTED GRAND MARSHAL OF THE 62ND ANNUAL NEWPORT ST. PATRICK'S DAY

PARADE

     WHEREAS, Being named Grand Marshal of the Newport St. Patrick's Day Parade is a

highly enviable and exceptional tribute bestowed upon those who have exhibited outstanding

devotion and distinction within the community; and

     WHEREAS, As a native of The City By The Sea, who possesses an unassuming nature

and an abundance of respect from her community, Colleen Hastings meets all the requirements of

being a true Newporter; and

     WHEREAS, Exceptionally proud of her Irish heritage, Ms. Hastings has visited Ireland

eight or nine times and her grandparents were born in Ireland, making her a natural choice to

oversee the St. Patrick's Day festivities in Newport; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Hastings graduated from the University of Rhode Island, and

subsequently worked under Judge Francis Boyle who encouraged her to pursue a law degree. In

1991, she attained her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School and started her own law

firm, the Family Law Center of Rhode Island; and

     WHEREAS, In 2010, while serving as a magistrate in Family Court, Judge Hastings was

nominated to the District Court and was assigned to Newport. Consistently demonstrating utmost

respect and an intrinsic knowledge of the law, she presides over myriad arraignments, probation

reviews, and trials. In addition, she does volunteer work for Lucy's Hearth and the Women's

Resource Center; and

     WHEREAS, Loved by her family, respected by her peers and a multitude of admirers,

and deeply devoted to the community, Colleen Hastings is an exceptional lady who is truly

deserving of the gratitude and recognition she has been afforded; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates the Honorable Colleen Hastings on being named Grand Marshal of the 62nd

Newport St. Patrick's Day Parade, and in the words of a famous Irish saying:

     "May your neighbors respect you, troubles neglect you, the angels protect you, and

Heaven accept you"; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Colleen Hastings.
