It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 9-17 of the General Laws entitled "Witnesses" is hereby amended |
2 | by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 9-17-26. Privileged communications - Interpreters and limited English proficient |
4 | (LEP) persons. |
5 | Whenever a limited English proficient (LEP) interpreter is used to facilitate a confidential |
6 | communication which is privileged pursuant to either statutory or common law, the limited |
7 | English proficient (LEP) interpreter shall not be compelled to testify in any forum in any civil or |
8 | criminal action regarding that communication. |
9 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
