S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING PROFOUND SYMPATHY ON THE PASSING OF CLAIRE A. DODD

     

     Introduced By: Senators Satchell, Raptakis, Gallo, Lombardi, and Quezada

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Claire

2

A. Dodd, a longtime resident of the Town of West Warwick, and the beloved mother of Lyn

3

Bernadyn, the doting grandmother of Tyler and Trevor Bernadyn, and mother-in-law of the late

4

Mark Bernadyn; and

5

     WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Claire was the daughter of the late Haydn and Roseala

6

Dodd, and the sister of the late Dorothy Melo; and

7

     WHEREAS, Claire had been the owner and manager of Dodd's Transportation &

8

Warehouse for many years before her retirement, and held the distinction of being the first

9

woman to be appointed to the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island Truck Owner's

10

Association; and

11

     WHEREAS, In addition to making a wonderful home for her daughter, and spending

12

time with her cherished grandsons, Claire had enjoyed entertaining family and friends at

13

clambakes at the beach house, Labor Day Parade parties, and for just about any occasion she

14

could find; and

15

     WHEREAS, A faithful parishioner, Claire was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul

16

Church and had been active in numerous altruistic and community organizations including, the

17

West Warwick Lions, the West Warwick Girls Softball league, the Christmas Is program that

18

provides toys and meals to local families, and NEADS, a nonprofit Service Dog organization; and

19

     WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Claire Dodd, a loving mother and grandmother, and a

20

hardworking and generous friend to many, left an indelible mark on the lives of those she loved

and helped, and she will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

2

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

3

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Claire A. Dodd; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Lyn Bernadyn and Family.
