PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY, 2018, TO BE "WATER'S WORTH IT MONTH" IN

THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, "Water's Worth It" is a clean water campaign created by the Water

2

Environment Federation, a not-for-profit association that has vigorously protected the public

3

health, served local communities, provided technical education and professional training for

4

thousands of water quality professionals, and supported clean water initiatives and programs

5

since 1928; and

6

     WHEREAS, The purpose of the "Water's Worth It" campaign is to inform and educate

7

the general public, media, educators, decision-makers and public officials about the importance of

8

clean water and to show the direct connection between what water professionals do every day and

9

the high value the public places on protecting the environment, having daily access to clean

10

water, and the jobs that are created through clean water projects; and

11

     WHEREAS, Other goals of this campaign include explaining to the general public and

12

their elected officials that water is a precious resource that needs to be recycled and reused,

13

supporting cutting-edge practices and technologies to deliver, recover and reuse water resources,

14

and elevating the profile of water sector professionals and recognizing and appreciating the vital

15

services they provide on an everyday basis to many millions of people in the United States and

16

across the globe; now, therefore be it

17

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

18

hereby proclaims the Month of May, 2018, to be "Water's Worth It Month" in the State of Rhode

19

Island; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

2

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Jennifer LeBeau, Executive Assistant,

3

Rhode Island Water Works Association.
