CONGRATULATING VINCENT D'ADAMO ON BEING NAMED GRAND MARSHAL OF | |
THE 11TH ANNUAL NORTH PROVIDENCE MEMORIAL DAY PARADE | |

1 | WHEREAS, The purpose of the Memorial Day Parade is to honor veterans for their |
2 | service to our country and to venerate those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this nation; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Being named Grand Marshal of the North Providence Memorial Day Parade |
4 | is a highly enviable and exceptional tribute bestowed upon those who have served our country |
5 | and have exhibited outstanding devotion and distinction within the community. With his own |
6 | unique charms and an abundance of personality, our friend and colleague Vincent D'Adamo |
7 | meets all the requirements; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. D'Adamo served our nation with honor in the United States Army |
9 | during the Korean conflict. He was in the Medical Corps at Fort Devens and later at the Walter |
10 | Reed Army Medical Center, and was stationed in Germany for two years, starting in 1953; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. D'Adamo is the son of Italian immigrants and had grown up in the |
12 | pharmacy business working for his father who had run a pharmacy in Providence. Upon returning |
13 | from his military service, he once again worked in the pharmacy business, eventually starting his |
14 | own store in North Providence, and for the next twenty-three years, ran the New Marieville |
15 | Pharmacy on the corner of Mineral Spring Avenue and Charles Street; and |
16 | WHEREAS, At the New Marieville Pharmacy, customers were always treated like |
17 | family. Mr. D'Adamo would answer calls for prescriptions at all hours of the day and night, and if |
18 | someone did not have enough money to pay, he would tell them to just forget about it. Currently, |
19 | he is employed as a doorkeeper for the Rhode Island Senate and plays his accordion for St. |

1 | Joseph's Day commemorations at the Statehouse; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Until recently, Mr. D'Adamo had been a lifelong North Providence resident. |
3 | He was married to his late wife, Bertha, whom he had taken care of for many years as she dealt |
4 | with multiple sclerosis. He is also the proud father of two daughters, three grandchildren, and two |
5 | great-grandsons; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Vincent D'Adamo is cherished by his family, respected at work, and deeply |
7 | devoted to the community. He is an exceptional gentleman who is truly deserving of the |
8 | recognition he has been afforded; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
10 | hereby congratulates Vincent D'Adamo on being named Grand Marshal of the 11th annual North |
11 | Providence Memorial Day Parade; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Vincent D'Adamo. |
