HONORING AND THANKING JOANNE MACERONI ON THE OCCASION OF HER | |
RETIREMENT FROM THE NARRAGANSETT BAY COMMISSION | |

1 | WHEREAS, Confucius is quoted as saying, "Choose a work that you love and you won't |
2 | have to work another day." Joanne Maceroni has embraced this philosophy throughout her |
3 | employment with the State of Rhode Island; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Classical High School, where she still remains an |
5 | active alumni and serves on the school's reunion committees, Joanne was allowed, unlike her |
6 | older sister, to attend an out-of-state college. She graduated from Emanuel College in Boston, |
7 | where she earned her Bachelor's degree in teaching; and |
8 | WHEREAS, After a brief venture into teaching in North Providence, Joanne succumbed |
9 | to the "political bug." From 1977 through 1985, she worked for Lt. Governor Thomas R. |
10 | DiLuglio. She was subsequently hired by Narragansett Bay Commission as an Assistant |
11 | Administrative Officer. In 1992, her title changed to Associate Executive Assistant, in 1996, she |
12 | was promoted to Manager of Special Projects, and later was promoted to Manager of Government |
13 | Affairs; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Devoted to job, but even more to her family, Joanne is the daughter of |
15 | Teresa and Anthony Maceroni, who was the President of the National Boxing Association in |
16 | 1960 and 1961, a member of the NBA executive committee, the first Rhode Island State Boxing |
17 | Commissioner, and the state's first Racing Commissioner. She is the sister of Geraldine Maceroni |
18 | and Bernard Maceroni; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Joanne who, due to her curly blond hair looked remarkably like Shirley |

1 | Temple, would have been named Giuseppina Maceroni had her father had his way. He had |
2 | wanted her to be named after his mother, but Joanne's mother thankfully intervened and |
3 | convinced him to Americanize it to Joanne; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Joanne is also the adored aunt of Anthony Hamel, Lisa Vingi, Lori |
5 | Caldarone and Gerald Hamel, and the great-aunt of Richard and Michael Calderone, Raymond |
6 | and Anthony Vingi, Grace, Sophia, Antonio and Andrew Hamel, who can always count on their |
7 | aunt to attend their myriad games and recitals, or be available for sleep overs; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Kind of heart and spirit, and generous to a fault, Joanne loves entertaining |
9 | family and friends with her fabulous cooking skills, but has a major weakness for expensive |
10 | handbags, shoes, jewelry and clothing. She is truly loved by everyone who knows her, and has |
11 | thoroughly earned our unqualified admiration and respect as she prepares to embark on the next |
12 | exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore be it |
13 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
14 | hereby honors and thanks Joanne Maceroni for her years of service and friendship. We wish her |
15 | much happiness, health and fulfillment; and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
17 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Joanne Maceroni. |
