S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING AND CONGRATULATING BOY SCOUT TROOP 10 OF WESTERLY, RHODE

ISLAND, FOR 79 YEARS OF INVALUABLE SERVICE TO THE STATE OF RHODE

ISLAND

     WHEREAS, Scouting is a movement that challenges, inspires, and guides youngsters

2

towards high achievement and high value as expressed in the scout oath, law, motto and slogan.

3

Scouting is the largest voluntary youth movement in the world and it has enhanced the lives of

4

countless young men from all ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds; and

5

     WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 10 of Westerly, has a 79 year record of living up to the

6

highest scout standards and the aspirations of the scouting movement. Troop 10’s service to the

7

greater Rhode Island community is unparalleled and has helped to mold thousands of young boys

8

into responsible young men who have developed strong leadership skills and high standards of

9

personal behavior; and

10

     WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 10 was formed in April of 1939, in a meeting held at

11

Immaculate Conception Church, and ever since has been sponsored by this church. Since its

12

humble beginnings with 7 scouts, Troop 10 has grown tremendously over the years and,

13

beginning with their first Eagle Scout in 1941, Paul Ferguson, Jr., has incredibly produced 107

14

Eagle Scouts over the past 79 years; and

15

     WHEREAS, None of the achievement accomplished by Troop 10 in Westerly would

16

have been possible without the strong and visionary leadership provided by the seven

17

Scoutmasters that have guided Troop 10 over the last 79 years including, Scoutmasters James

18

Jessop, Jr, from 1939 to 1940, Paul S. Ferguson from 1940 to 1943, Frank "Chief" Azzinaro from

19

1943 to 1945, Joseph Bottone from 1946 to 1970, Thomas McGrath from 1982 to 1992, and Fran

Fleck since 1992; now, therefore be it

2

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

3

hereby congratulates Boy Scout Troop 10, of Westerly, for 79 years of invaluable service to the

4

State of Rhode Island; and be it further

5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Fran Fleck, Scoutmaster, Boy Scout Troop

7

10 of Westerly, Rhode Island.
