HONORING SENATOR MARC A. COTE FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE

STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, To the immense good fortune of the people of Woonsocket and North

Smithfield, Marc Cote chose a life path that incorporated both his aspirations and his extensive

aptitude for public service; and

     WHEREAS, Marc Cote graduated from Mount St. Charles Academy and earned his

Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island and his Master's degree from

Babson College; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Cote was first elected to the Rhode Island Senate representing what

is now District 24, on November 8th of 1994, and having earned the trust of his constituency, was

re-elected eleven times; and

     WHEREAS, During his twenty-four year tenure in the Senate, the Honorable Marc Cote

has served in numerous leadership capacities, most currently as Vice Chairman of the Senate

Committee on Commerce and as a member of the Senate Committee on Special Legislation &

Veterans' Affairs; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Cote has been a strong pro-business voice in the Senate,

championing legislation to reduce the tax burden on businesses in Woonsocket by allowing

tangible property taxes to be prorated on a monthly rather than a full year basis, and was named a

"Friend of Small Business" by the Rhode Island chapter of the National Federation of

Independent Business. He has also been a strong supporter of government reform, for which he

received Operation Clean Government's Golden Broom Award. In addition, he successfully

advocated for the adoption of an online bill tracking system that enabled the public to more easily

access legislative information as well as many additional issues and bills throughout his tenure;

and

     WHEREAS, In addition to his state service, Senator Cote is the husband of his biggest

supporter, Suzanne, and together they are the parents of Justin and Monique. For the past thirty-

nine years he has been a successful real estate broker, most currently as a commercial real estate

broker associate for Boucher Real Estate; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Cote carries himself with quiet dignity and class, a true gentleman

to his core. He has represented his constituents with the highest integrity, and his dutiful service is

a matter of pride for this Chamber and for our State; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Cote's leadership and tireless devotion to the citizens of the Ocean

State have earned him our unqualified admiration and respect, and he will most assuredly be

missed; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby joins the family and many friends of Senator Marc Cote in recognizing and celebrating his

inspirational career of service to the people of the State of Rhode Island. We, moreover, wish him

continued success, happiness and fulfillment in all his future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Marc A. Cote.
