HONORING SENATOR MARC A. COTE FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE | |
STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, To the immense good fortune of the people of Woonsocket and North |
2 | Smithfield, Marc Cote chose a life path that incorporated both his aspirations and his extensive |
3 | aptitude for public service; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Marc Cote graduated from Mount St. Charles Academy and earned his |
5 | Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island and his Master's degree from |
6 | Babson College; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Senator Cote was first elected to the Rhode Island Senate representing what |
8 | is now District 24, on November 8th of 1994, and having earned the trust of his constituency, was |
9 | re-elected eleven times; and |
10 | WHEREAS, During his twenty-four year tenure in the Senate, the Honorable Marc Cote |
11 | has served in numerous leadership capacities, most currently as Vice Chairman of the Senate |
12 | Committee on Commerce and as a member of the Senate Committee on Special Legislation & |
13 | Veterans' Affairs; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Senator Cote has been a strong pro-business voice in the Senate, |
15 | championing legislation to reduce the tax burden on businesses in Woonsocket by allowing |
16 | tangible property taxes to be prorated on a monthly rather than a full year basis, and was named a |
17 | "Friend of Small Business" by the Rhode Island chapter of the National Federation of |
18 | Independent Business. He has also been a strong supporter of government reform, for which he |
19 | received Operation Clean Government's Golden Broom Award. In addition, he successfully |

1 | advocated for the adoption of an online bill tracking system that enabled the public to more easily |
2 | access legislative information as well as many additional issues and bills throughout his tenure; |
3 | and |
4 | WHEREAS, In addition to his state service, Senator Cote is the husband of his biggest |
5 | supporter, Suzanne, and together they are the parents of Justin and Monique. For the past thirty- |
6 | nine years he has been a successful real estate broker, most currently as a commercial real estate |
7 | broker associate for Boucher Real Estate; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Senator Cote carries himself with quiet dignity and class, a true gentleman |
9 | to his core. He has represented his constituents with the highest integrity, and his dutiful service is |
10 | a matter of pride for this Chamber and for our State; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Senator Cote's leadership and tireless devotion to the citizens of the Ocean |
12 | State have earned him our unqualified admiration and respect, and he will most assuredly be |
13 | missed; now, therefore be it |
14 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
15 | hereby joins the family and many friends of Senator Marc Cote in recognizing and celebrating his |
16 | inspirational career of service to the people of the State of Rhode Island. We, moreover, wish him |
17 | continued success, happiness and fulfillment in all his future endeavors; and be it further |
18 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
19 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Marc A. Cote. |
