A N   A C T

RELATING TO PUBLIC FINANCE - BUDGETING - LEGISLATIVE GRANTS

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Quattrocchi, Filippi, Roberts, Nardone, and Place

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 35-3 of the General Laws entitled "State Budget" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     35-3-28. Legislative grants.

     The aggregate amount of all monies provided for in each annual budget for legislative

5

grants shall be divided in two (2) equal shares. One share shall be prorated equally among each

6

senator elected and in office on the preceding first Tuesday in January. Each senator may

7

designate the recipient or recipients of each equal, prorated share in such amounts as the senator

8

may choose, among any charitable, nonprofit, or community organization or entity which such

9

senator may designate. The other share shall be prorated equally among each representative

10

elected and in office on the preceding first Tuesday in January. Each representative may

11

designate the recipient or recipients of each equal, prorated share in such amounts as the

12

representative may choose, among any charitable, nonprofit, or community organization or entity

13

which such representative may designate. The recipient of any legislative grant designated by a

14

senator or representative shall be subject to review and approval of the joint committee on

15

legislative services, and approval of the general assembly.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would provide that legislative grants would be awarded by senators and

2

representatives in equal prorated shares, one half (1/2) in each chamber.

3

     This act would take effect upon passage.
