	RELATING TO TAXATION - MOTOR VEHICLE AND TRAILER EXCISE TAX
	ELIMINATION ACT OF 1998

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Chapter 44-34.1 of the General Laws entitled "Motor Vehicle and Trailer
2	Excise Tax Elimination Act of 1998" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
3	44-34.1-1.1. Uniform statewide excise tax rate.
4	Subsequent to the phase-out of the excise tax during fiscal year 2024, any reimposition of
5	the excise tax by the general assembly shall provide for the imposition of a uniform statewide
6	excise tax rate for utilization by the cities and towns.
7	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

	ELIMINATION ACT OF 1998

1	This act would require that any reimposition of the motor vehicle and trailer excise tax
2	subsequent to its phase-out in fiscal year 2024 shall provide a uniform statewide tax rate for use
3	by the cities and towns.
4	This act would take effect upon passage.
