EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOHN A. LUCAS

     WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the passing of John

2

A. Lucas, beloved husband of sixty-six years to Yvonne Lucas, and devoted father of John Lucas,

3

Patricia Lafleur, Linda Mandeville and her husband, James Jr., and Jo-Ann Harlow and her

4

husband, Winfield; and

5

     WHEREAS, Better known as "Jack" to his family and many friends, Mr. Lucas was born

6

in the City of Central Falls, the son of the late Anthony and Evelyn Lucas. He was a graduate of

7

St. Raphael Academy and Providence College; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harlow was blessed with a large and loving family. In addition to his

9

wife and children, he was the very proud grandfather of Ryan Lucas, Bethany Lucas, Derek

10

Lucas, MaryRose Lucas, Stefanie Lafleur, Michael Lafleur, Samuel Harlow, and Caleb Harlow,

11

and seven great-grandchildren; and

12

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lucas served our country with honor in the United States Army during

13

World War II and later in the United States Navy Reserves. He had been employed as a Vice

14

President of Citizens Trust Company and Citizens Bank for forty-four years prior to his

15

retirement; and

16

     WHEREAS, An active member of the community, Mr. Lucas was secretary of Pawtucket

17

Veterans Council, served as a chaplain of the United Veterans Council of RI, secretary of the

18

Fairlawn American Legion Post, and was a communicant of St. Jude Parish since 1956, where he

19

had previously served on the parish council. In addition, he was a former member of Lincoln

20

Council Knights of Columbus, Deputy Chief of Auxiliary Police in Central Falls, and had

previously served on the RI Association of School Committees; and

2

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lucas was also politically active. He was a lifetime member of the

3

Democratic State Committee, the vice-chair of the Democratic Representative District Committee

4

for District 46, and had been a member of the Board of Canvassers; and

5

     WHEREAS, Jack Lucas amply demonstrated his tireless devotion to his family and his

6

commitment to his community. He enriched the lives of all who knew him and will be dearly

7

missed; now, therefore be it

8

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

9

Providence Plantations hereby expresses its deepest sympathies on the passing of John A. Lucas;

10

and be it further

11

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

12

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Yvonne Lucas and Family.
