JOYOUSLY CELEBRATING THE 92ND BIRTHDAY OF MR. THEODORE F. LOW

     WHEREAS, Theodore F. Low was born in Providence, on March 31, 1927, the eldest

2

child of Isador and Cecile Low. A resident of the Blackstone Boulevard community, Mr. Low

3

graduated from the Moses Brown School, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Brown

4

University, and the Ohio State Graduate School of Business; and

5

     WHEREAS, Mr. Low served our nation with honor and integrity during the Korean War

6

as a member of the United States Army. In recognition of his meritorious service to our nation

7

and the Korean people, he received the United Nations Korean Service Medal, the United States

8

Unit Citation, the Korean Presidential Citation, and the Korean "Ambassador to Freedom" Medal;

9

and

10

     WHEREAS, Mr. Low also served our state with distinction for many years as a member

11

of the Rhode Island National Guard, for which he received the Rhode Island Star. Additionally,

12

he served as a Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army (CASA), and in recognition of this

13

service he received the Commander’s Medal; and

14

     WHEREAS, Mr. Low’s other military-related service includes serving as the Chairman

15

of the Korean War Memorial Commission of Rhode Island, as a military advisor to the City of

16

Providence, and was a member of numerous military organizations including Companion of the

17

Military Order of Foreign Wars, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Association of the United States

18

Army, Korean War Veterans Association, Society of American Military Engineers, and the

19

Providence Marine Corps of Artillery, 43rd Division Veterans; and

20

     WHEREAS, Mr. Low is currently retired after a successful, distinguished and varied

business career. He served as the President of the Sims Corporation, Executive Vice President of

2

Widmer & Ernst, AG (Switzerland), Senior Vice President of Blount Energy, and most recently,

3

as the Senior Consultant of Theodore F. Low & Associates, Inc., Environmental Engineers and

4

Consultants; and

5

     WHEREAS, Mr. Low has also supported numerous charitable organizations including

6

serving as the District Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America, as a Charter Member of the

7

National Society of State Legislators, as Chairman of Moses Brown School, Chairman of Genesis

8

School, Vice President of the Providence Zoo Board, and E.P. Bradley Hospital Board; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mr. Low is a Life Member of the University Club, Life Member of the

10

Swiss Alpine Club, member of the World Affairs Council Board, and member and Past President

11

of Willow Dell Beach. He serves the First Unitarian Church of Providence as a Senior Deacon

12

and as Vice Chair of the Prudential Committee, and as a member of the Advisory Council of the

13

United States Conference of Mayors, as well as numerous additional affiliations. He was also

14

selected as a Community Leader of America by the United States Publishers Association of

15

America in 1968 and 1970, and in 1978 was named a Blount "Citizen of the Year"; and

16

     WHEREAS, Mr. Low married the love of his life, Kay Hohenthaner Low in 1960, and

17

together they raised two wonderful daughters, Sara Beth Low and Emily Low Boenning. He is

18

the brother of Brenda Mann and the late Susan Low Sauer; now, therefore be it

19

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

20

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Mr. Theodore F. Low on the joyous occasion of his

21

92nd Birthday on March 31, 2019. We furthermore thank him for his honorable and meritorious

22

service to our nation as a member of the United States Army; now, therefore be it

23

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

24

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Theodore F. Low.
