EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOHN R. WAYCOTT

     WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the passing of John

2

R. Waycott the devoted husband for fifty-one years to Carol Waycott, the beloved father of David

3

Waycott and his wife, Kristen, and Kristen Murphy and her husband, Roderick McGarry, and the

4

very proud grandfather of Brittany Waycott, Zachary Waycott, Mackenzie Waycott, Jack Michael

5

James Murphy, Samantha Murphy, Shea Murphy and Joseph McGarry; and

6

     WHEREAS, Jack, as he was affectionately called by his family and many friends, was

7

born in the City of Pawtucket, the son of the late John and Isabell Waycott, a beloved brother, and

8

the adored uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Slater Junior High School,

9

Pawtucket West High School, and earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Providence

10

College; and

11

     WHEREAS, Mr. Waycott served our country with honor in the United States Army. For

12

thirty-five years, he was employed as a teacher of Social Studies and later, as a truancy officer for

13

the Pawtucket School Department; and

14

     WHEREAS, Committed to serving his community, and particularly those less fortunate,

15

Mr. Waycott coordinated an educational program for homeless youngsters at two of Pawtucket's

16

shelters, expanding the project from basic tutoring to an innovative language arts program,

17

including hands-on experience and field trips related to learning experiences; and

18

     WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Waycott had served as the District I Coordinator for the We

19

the People Program, and had served in the position of grant administrator for the Emergency

20

Shelter of Pawtucket & Central Falls for women and children; and

     WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Jack Waycott left this world a far better place because

2

of his life’s endeavors. He was a steadfast gentleman, whose integrity and determination enriched

3

the lives of all who knew him and was an inspiration to us all; now, therefore be it

4

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

5

Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of John R.

6

Waycott; and be it further

7

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

8

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Carol Waycott and Family.
