CELEBRATING "ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS DAY" ON APRIL 24, 2019, AND

THANKING ALL OF THE DEDICATED STAFF WHO WORK TIRELESSLY IN SUPPORT

OF THE RHODE ISLAND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

     WHEREAS, In 1952, United States Secretary of Commerce Charles W. Sawyer

2

proclaimed the week of June 1-7 to be "National Secretaries Week" with Wednesday, June 4th

3

being designated as "National Secretaries Day." In 1955, "National Secretaries Week" was moved

4

to the last full week of April with the Wednesday of that week now being designated as

5

"Administrative Professionals Day." The name was changed to "Professional Secretaries Week"

6

in 1981, and became "Administrative Professionals Week" in 2000; and

7

     WHEREAS, Administrative Professionals Day celebrates the four million hard-working

8

Administrative Assistants within the United States workforce who make invaluable contributions

9

on a daily basis in support of their workplace. Many of them toil late into the night and early in

10

the morning in order to ensure that the work product is accurate and on time. Without these

11

dedicated professionals, most workplaces could not function properly; and

12

     WHEREAS, Our nation's Administrative Professionals can be found working for small

13

and big businesses, at charitable entities, and in all government institutions including schools,

14

hospitals and other vital components of society, and they are often the first contact a member of

15

the public has with a particular institution; and

16

     WHEREAS, At the Rhode Island State House, dedicated Administrative Professionals

17

work long hours to support the needs and important functions of the Rhode Island House of

18

Representatives. Thanks to these exemplary professionals, the members of the House can better

19

represent their constituents and do the important work they were elected to do; now, therefore be

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

3

Providence Plantations hereby proudly celebrates "Administrative Professionals Day" on April

4

24, 2019, and thanks all of the dedicated staff who work tirelessly in support of the Rhode Island

5

House of Representatives; and be it further

6

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

7

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Nara Onishi, CAP, OM, PM, Chair of the

8

International Association of Administrative Professionals.
