H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING TOM MILEWSKI, CRANSTON WEST HIGH SCHOOL HEAD

FOOTBALL COACH, ON RECEIVING THE "2018 COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD"

FROM THE PROVIDENCE GRIDIRON CLUB

     WHEREAS, Tom Milewski, the Cranston West High School Football Head Coach newly

appointed in 2018, quickly improved the success of his team when he led Cranston West to a

successful 8-4 season in 2018, and their first Super Bowl appearance since 2005; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Milewski had been an Assistant Coach on the Cranston West staff for

twenty years, and therefore had the experience and player-personnel knowledge necessary to

succeed. Through the years, Coach Milewski learned that being flexible and willing to alter a

game plan, or shifting personnel in response to team needs or game situations, is a vital

component to coaching; and

     WHEREAS, From the beginning of training and practices in August, Coach Milewski

was able to get the entire team to not only trust and believe in him, but also to believe in

themselves. From the team’s opening game victory at Cumberland High School, the Cranston

West Football Team gave notice that they were going to be a force with which to be reckoned;

and

     WHEREAS, Throughout the 2018 season, the Cranston West Football Team was a

focused, disciplined and hard-hitting team that, combined with Coach Milewski’s innovative

game-planning and play calling, were able to compete with and often beat teams with superior

talent and more experience; and

     WHEREAS, The 2018 Cranston West Football Team surprised Rhode Island High

School football observers and marched all the way to the Rhode Island Interscholastic Football

League Super Bowl, where they fell in a heartbreakingly close game to North Kingstown. None

of their most recent success would have been possible without the outstanding leadership and

guidance provided by Cranston West Football Coach Tom Milewski; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Cranston West Head Football Coach Tom Milewski

on receiving the “2018 Coach of the Year Award” from the Providence Gridiron Club; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Tom Milewski, Head Football Coach,

Cranston West High School.
