H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING TOLMAN BOYS SOCCER HEAD COACH DAN SILVA ON BEING

NAMED THE RHODE ISLAND INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE 2018-2019 MALE COACH

OF THE YEAR

     WHEREAS, Dan Silva, the talented Head Coach of the Tolman Boys Soccer Team, made

history in 2018 when he led his team to its first ever Division I Boys Soccer Championship and

the first State Championship for Tolman High School since 1977; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Silva’s Tigers stormed through the regular season undefeated and

earned the No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the Boys Soccer Division I Tournament. After

Tolman dispatched North Kingstown by the score of 2-0 in the Quarterfinals, and South

Kingstown by the score of 1-0 in a hard-fought Semi-Finals match, a showdown meeting with

soccer powerhouse and arch-rival La Salle Academy for the State Title was set to be played at

Polisena Stadium in Johnston; and

     WHEREAS, In a thrilling and riveting match, with both teams near exhaustion after

competing tirelessly for 80 straight minutes, Tolman emerged victorious in dramatic fashion

when, with only six seconds left, Aliou Sissoko deflected a corner kick by Roy Barrios into the

net to seal the State Championship for Tolman; and

     WHEREAS, The Tolman Boys Soccer record-setting, undefeated season and State

Championship was accomplished in large part thanks to the innovative coaching and superb

leadership that was provided all season by Head Coach Dan Silva. Coach Silva has proven

himself to be both a superb tactician on the pitch, and a coach who provides excellent guidance

and direction to his players both on and off the fields of play; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Tolman Boys Soccer Head Coach Dan Silva on

being named the Rhode Island Interscholastic League 2018-2019 Male Coach of the Year; and be

it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Dan Silva, Tolman High School Boys

Soccer Head Coach.
