CONGRATULATING MOLLY ANDRADE ON BEING NAMED "MISS RHODE ISLAND

2019"

     WHEREAS, Accomplished young women from across Rhode Island competed in the

annual 2019 Miss Rhode Island Pageant in Providence on May 5, 2019; and

     WHEREAS, Middletown's own homegrown beauty, Molly Andrade, took home the title,

the first winner from her hometown since 1977; and

     WHEREAS, A 2017 graduate of Middletown High School, Ms. Andrade currently

attends Endicott College where she is majoring in Business Management; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Andrade is triple blessed. She is not only a celebrated beauty, but her

endearing personality earned her the acclaim of her peers, who voted to name her Miss

Congeniality at the Pageant; and

     WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Andrade is talented and accomplished in Irish Step

Dancing. Having begun taking lessons at the age of nine, she has performed at the World

Championships, and won the dance talent award as well as overall talent during the Miss Rhode

Island competition; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Andrade's Pageant platform is also highly commendable. She

championed self-defense for women as a means of empowerment, with her social impact

initiative, 12 Hours Could Save A Life: Combatting Sexual Assault. She hopes to encourage

young women to gain confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn the power and lessons of

success as well as failure, and would like to implement a self-defense program in Rhode Island

High Schools; and

     WHEREAS, As the winner of Miss Rhode Island 2019, Ms. Andrade received an official

crown and sash, a $5,000 scholarship, a $1,000 community service scholarship, a full year of hair

and makeup services, and numerous gift certificates and personal training; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Andrade also received the Miracle Maker Award, for the second year in

a row, for her efforts in raising the most money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,

and the privilege and honor of representing the Ocean State at the 2019 Miss America

Competition in Atlantic City, New Jersey; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Molly Andrade on being named Miss Rhode Island

2019. We wish her much happiness, good health, and continued success in September's Pageant

and in all her future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Molly Andrade.
