CONGRATULATING JAALA SMITH ON HER OUTSTANDING PERFOMANCE ON

"MASTERCHEF JUNIOR"

     WHEREAS, Twelve-year-old Jaala Smith is a sixth grader at Slater Middle School in

2

Pawtucket. At the age of five, she would watch her mom, Jessica, and dad, Jason, cooking and

3

would ask to help. Not that long after, she began dominating the kitchen; and

4

     WHEREAS, Baking and cooking became Jaala's passion and watching culinary shows on

5

the television engendered the dream that one day she would compete as a contestant on the adult

6

cooking competition "MasterChef"; and

7

     WHEREAS, Jaala didn't have to wait that long. After submitting an application to

8

"MasterChef Junior," she was on her way, traveling to Los Angeles in April to compete with

9

other young chefs from around the country; and

10

     WHEREAS, The shows were filmed with contestants competing in a series of cooking-

11

related challenges judged by celebrity chefs Gordon Ramsay, Christina Tosi and Aarón Sánchez.

12

Her extraordinary culinary skills earned her a lengthy run on the show and an admirable eighth

13

place finish; and

14

     WHEREAS, Jaala's favorite challenge was the camp challenge which she won with her

15

delicious barbecue chicken with chipotle butter corn dish. She also won the cupcake challenge,

16

and earned the right to have her recipes published in Family Circle Magazine and the MasterChef

17

Cookbook; and

18

     WHEREAS, Jaala's signature dish is a mouth-watering pasta with mushrooms Alfredo.

She also enjoys cooking chicken and waffles, chicken and rice, and a tasty variety of baked

goods. She hopes to attend Johnson & Wales University in order to become a chef, and dreams

2

of one day operating her own food truck and running her own bakery; now, therefore be it

3

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

4

Providence Plantations hereby heartily congratulates Jaala Smith on her outstanding performance

5

on "MasterChef Junior" and is quite certain that she will have much success in all her future

6

endeavors; and be it further

7

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

8

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Jaala Smith.
