H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING PAWTUCKET FIREFIGHTER, LIEUTENANT SEAN ASHER, FOR HIS

HEROIC ACTIONS IN HELPING TO SAVE THE LIFE OF A PERSON TRAPPED IN A

HOUSE FIRE

     WHEREAS, Early in the morning on May 15, 2019, Pawtucket firefighters responded to

2

a fire blazing within a three-story building on Central Avenue, with occupants trapped inside. In

3

the midst of the fire, Lieutenant Sean Asher, a dedicated Pawtucket firefighter, was on the roof

4

cutting a hole in the structure to ventilate the building when suddenly a woman in severe distress

5

appeared in a third-floor window asking for help; and

6

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Asher immediately made the difficult decision to return to the

7

aerial ladder and have it moved to the woman, a dangerous move posing a grave risk to the

8

firefighter, but one necessary to ensure the safety of the occupant given the urgency of the

9

situation; and

10

     WHEREAS, In a valiant attempt to save the occupant's life and lead her to safety,

11

Lieutenant Asher lost his footing on the aerial ladder, crushing and severely injuring his left foot

12

when it was trapped between the rungs of the ladder. Sadly, Lieutenant Asher's foot had to be

13

amputated; and

14

     WHEREAS, Every day, firefighters throughout our nation and the State of Rhode Island

15

work tirelessly and risk their lives to preserve and protect the lives and property of our citizenry.

16

Pawtucket Firefighter, Lieutenant Asher, is one such heroic individual who answered the call of

17

duty and paid a very high price on May 15, 2019, when he attempted to save the life of a woman

18

trapped in a house fire. May we always remember the sacrifice Lieutenant Asher, and other

19

firefighters, have made on our behalf; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

2

Providence Plantations hereby honors and thanks Pawtucket Firefighter, Lieutenant Sean Asher,

3

for his heroic actions on May 15, 2019; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Pawtucket Firefighter, Lieutenant Sean Asher.
