EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE HAROLD J. | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Honorable Harold J. Miller, a distinguished Rhode Island State Senator |
2 | from Pawtucket, passed away surrounded by his loving family; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Harold J. Miller was born in Pawtucket, son of the late Harold and Edelia |
4 | Miller. He graduated from Tolman High School and Bryant University and later served in the |
5 | United States Navy from 1957 to 1959, where he was assigned to Helicopter Squadron #9 and |
6 | was appointed to welcome King Boudin of Jordan to the United States; and |
7 | WHEREAS, After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy, he |
8 | became a member of the Rhode Island State Police, serving with honor and distinction from 1960 |
9 | to 1980, when he retired with the rank of Lieutenant. During his tenure with the State Police, he |
10 | had the honor of meeting three United States Presidents and Pope John Paul, II. Upon retiring |
11 | from the State Police, he served as the Chief of Security at the Warwick Mall from 1980 to 1994; |
12 | and |
13 | WHEREAS, In 1983, Senator Miller was elected to a seat in the Rhode Island State |
14 | Senate from Pawtucket, serving until 1994. While in the Senate, he served as the Chair of State |
15 | Traffic Commission, the Chair of the Joint Committee on Highway Safety, and as a member of |
16 | the Judiciary Committee; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Upon retiring from the Rhode Island State Senate, Senator Miller moved to |
18 | Delray Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed thoroughbred racing, golfing and fishing. He continued |
19 | to return to Rhode Island where he enjoyed spending time with his daughters and spending time |

1 | with friends at Triggs Country Club. His jovial personality and compassionate demeanor will be |
2 | missed by all who knew him; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Senator Miller is survived by his daughters, Patricia Miller, Michaeleen |
4 | Miller, and Allison Miller. He also leaves behind his brother, Edward Miller and his wife, Karen, |
5 | sisters, Carolyn Albright and her husband, Craig, and Dorothy Barrett and her husband, Phillip, |
6 | and their daughter Lisa, with whom he resided and was cared for during his illness. He was |
7 | preceded in death by his brother, Donald Miller. He also leaves behind three stepchildren, Karen |
8 | Frost, Linda Foss, and Sandra Spaziano, three step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and his |
9 | dear friend Elizabeth Meade; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
11 | hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the Miller Family on the passing of the Honorable |
12 | Harold J. Miller; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Miller Family. |
