S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF BERNARD L. EATON,

JR.

     WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of

2

Bernard L. Eaton, Jr., devoted husband of Joy Eaton, beloved father of our friend and colleague

3

the Honorable Elaine J. Morgan, Bernard L. Eaton III, and David E. Eaton, the cherished

4

grandfather of Corey and Brandon Eaton, Samantha Oliveira and Ian Morgan, and the proud

5

great-grandfather of Levi Alexander James; and

6

     WHEREAS, Mr. Eaton was a son of the late Bernard and Lillian Eaton, Sr., and the

7

brother of the late Frank "Billy", Francis, Richard, Paul Eaton, and the late Marion Watts. He had

8

been employed as a security guard for many years before his retirement from Woman & Infants

9

Hospital. In addition, he had been an accomplished artist; and

10

     WHEREAS, Mr. Eaton served our country with honor and distinction during the Korean

11

War, where he served with the fifth regimental combat team of the 24th infantry division. He had

12

been honored with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his valor; and

13

     WHEREAS, In addition to his family and career, Mr. Eaton was a member of the Korean

14

War Veterans Chapter 2 of West Warwick, and Chapter 3 of Chepachet, and had volunteered as a

15

driver for the Veteran's Administration Hospital. He was also a 32nd degree Mason, and a member

16

of the Doric Lodge; and

17

     WHEREAS, There is no doubt that Bernard Eaton left this world a far better place

18

because of his life's endeavors. He was a devoted family man and a steadfast gentleman, whose

19

integrity and determination enriched the lives of all who knew him and he will be greatly missed;

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

3

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Bernard L. Eaton, Jr.; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mrs. Joy Eaton and Family, and the Honorable

6

Elaine J. Morgan.
