S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ALFRED CARPIONATO

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Alfred

2

Carpionato, beloved husband of Sheryl Carpionato, loving father of two sons, Domenic and

3

Louis, and the well-respected CEO of Carpionato Group; and

4

     WHEREAS, Born in Providence, Alfred "Fred" Carpionato was the son of the late Louis

5

and Anna Carpionato, and the brother of Iliana Luchka and Attilia Renzi. He began his career as a

6

teenager working for his father's residential construction business. He eventually took over the

7

family's construction business, moving it toward commercial real estate and ever-increasing

8

success for more than six decades; and

9

     WHEREAS, A self-made man, who came from humble beginnings, Mr. Carpionato was

10

described as "…one of the best developers and real estate minds our state has ever seen, and his

11

projects transformed Rhode Island." Renowned Carpionato developments include the Chapel

12

View shopping complex in Cranston and the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick; and

13

     WHEREAS, Currently, the Carpionato Group has more than 6 million square feet of

14

property within its portfolio encompassing Class A retail, office, residential and hospitality space,

15

and has 500 employees working on $1.5 billion in development projects; and

16

     WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Carpionato was dedicated to his community. He served on

17

the Board of Rhode Island Hospital, was a member of the Rhode Island Commodores, and had

18

been inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 2017; and

19

     WHEREAS, Fred Carpionato was a tireless worker, a visionary, and a generous

20

philanthropist, whose life and accomplishments truly changed the landscape of Rhode Island. He

will be dearly missed but never forgotten; now, therefore be it

2

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

3

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Alfred Carpionato; and be it further

4

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Sheryl Carpionato and Family.
