EXPRESSING SINCERE CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MARTHA TORRADO | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Martha |
2 | Torrado, beloved wife of the late Luis Torrado, M.D., and cherished mother of six children, Pilar |
3 | Tasca and her late husband, Christopher, Luis Torrado and his wife, Lisa, Jaqueline and her |
4 | husband, Jeffrey Baron M.D., Rafael Torrado and his wife, Sandra, Alexander Torrado, and her |
5 | very special son John Paul Torrado; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Martha Cielo Reyes de Torrado was born in Bogotá, Colombia, the last |
7 | surviving child of eleven siblings born to Rafael and Agripina Reyes Acuña; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Torrado earned a degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music, where |
9 | she majored in Opera and Classical Piano. Upon returning to Colombia, she became involved in |
10 | numerous philanthropic endeavors including being a founding member of the National YWCA |
11 | and the Physicians' Families Association for disadvantaged children; and |
12 | WHEREAS, As the only female contestant, Mrs. Torrado acquired national attention |
13 | after her appearance on a popular televised game show in Colombia, where she won in the area of |
14 | the evolution of fashion through history and art; and |
15 | WHEREAS, In 1970, the Torrados immigrated to Rhode Island, eventually settling in the |
16 | City of Cranston, where they became active members in the local Hispanic community; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Combining her business acumen with a love for traveling, Mrs. Torrado |
18 | founded a Spanish-American Travel agency that specialized in student study abroad programs; |
19 | and |
20 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Torrado was an active member of the Chopin Club and hosted |

1 | numerous gatherings at her home but her true devotion in life was caring for her son, John Paul. |
2 | She was also the loving grandmother of twelve grandchildren, Eliana, Jacklyne, Christopher and |
3 | Nicholas Tasca, Stephanie, Luis C., Andrew and Christian Torrado, Veronica and Gabriela |
4 | Baron, and Sofia and Lucas Torrado. She was also blessed with two beautiful great- |
5 | grandchildren, Grace and Jack Bulman, and was the cherished aunt of Maria Tateosian, Elisa |
6 | Waid, Paulina Paez and numerous nieces and nephews and their families overseas; and |
7 | WHEREAS, With grace and elegance, Martha Torrado left an indelible mark on the lives |
8 | of those she knew and loved, and she will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
10 | hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to the Torrado Family on the passing of Martha |
11 | Torrado; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Pilar Tasca, Luis Torrado, Jaqueline Baron, |
14 | Rafael Torrado, Alexander Torrado, and John Paul Torrado. |
