HONORING KYLE DRISCOLL FOR HIS HEROIC EFFORTS IN RESCUING A YOUNG | |

1 | WHEREAS, Many people go through their lives without any personal contact with a |
2 | potential life and death situation, without that defining moment that turns an ordinary person into |
3 | a hero. Kyle Driscoll faced such a challenge, and in that moment of crisis, without hesitation, he |
4 | did the extraordinary and saved the life of a young Providence man; and |
5 | WHEREAS, In the early morning hours on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, Kyle Driscoll, an |
6 | employee at the Malted Barley in Westerly, stepped outside with the bar's manager around 1:30 |
7 | a.m. after a fire alarm had gone off inside the restaurant; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, the two heard a loud crash. They observed a car, directly |
9 | behind the bar, that had just driven off Coggswell Street into the rushing waters of the Pawcatuck |
10 | River, and spotted a passenger in the driver's seat; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Without hesitation, Kyle took off his shoes and jumped down from a rock |
12 | wall into the water, swimming towards the slowly sinking vehicle. By the time he reached the car, |
13 | it was half underwater, but he was able to pull the man, who seemed to be in shock, out of the car |
14 | through the broken driver's side window and began to swim towards shore; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Kyle pulled the man towards a cable close to the shore and pulled himself |
16 | and the man up onto the ledge where police located them shortly thereafter and dispatched a boat |
17 | to pick them up; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey stated that if Kyle had not jumped in to |
19 | help the man that it was very likely he would not have survived; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
2 | hereby recognizes and honors Kyle Driscoll for his heroic and clear-headed actions during the |
3 | most dire of circumstances. He is truly an inspiration to us all and we extend best wishes for his |
4 | future happiness, success, and good health; and be it further |
5 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
6 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Kyle Driscoll. |
