S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING EMILY RAIMONDI ON BEING SELECTED AS ONE OF RHODE

ISLAND’S DISTINGUISHED HONOREES IN THE 24TH ANNUAL PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT

OF COMMUNITY AWARDS PROGRAM

     WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, presented by Prudential

Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors

young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to

serving their communities; and

     WHEREAS, Emily Raimondi, a fifth-grader at Garvin Memorial School in Cumberland,

has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by being selected as one of the

State Honorees for the 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

     WHEREAS, The recipients of this award clearly demonstrate that young people across

America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities and

deserve all the praise and appreciation that we can give them; and

     WHEREAS, Emily earned this award by generously giving her time and energy

collecting gifts for children and low-income families and for homeless pets in an animal shelter.

She hosted a party at Christmastime for the Toys for Tots program and on her birthday, threw a

party asking friends to bring pet toys and food instead of presents; and

     WHEREAS, In addition, over the course of four years, Emily has raised almost $10,000

for the Travis Roy Foundation to help people with spinal injuries; and

     WHEREAS, The names of more than 29,000 young people were submitted by various

schools and organizations across the country and are then reviewed by an independent panel. The

panel then selects the State Honorees and Distinguished Finalists based on criteria including

personal initiative, effort, impact, and personal growth; and

     WHEREAS, The success of the State of Rhode Island, the strength of our communities,

and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of

young people like Emily Raimondi who use their considerable talents and resources to serve

others; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates Emily Raimondi on being selected as one of the 2019 Prudential Spirit of

Community Award State Honorees. We furthermore recognize and applaud her outstanding

record of volunteer service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and extends our best wishes

for her continued success and happiness; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Emily Raimondi.
