RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- PUBLIC SAFETY EMPLOYEES

     

     Introduced By: Senators Ciccone, Lombardo, Lombardi, and McCaffrey

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 45-19 of the General Laws entitled "Relief of Injured and Deceased

2

Fire Fighters and Police Officers" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     45-19-1.7. Salary payment of correctional officers.

4

     Any benefits that a disabled, injured on-duty correctional officer may enjoy, as a result of

5

any collective bargaining agreement, similar to those benefits available through ยง 45-19-1, shall

6

not be subject to any income taxation under chapter 30 of title 44.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- PUBLIC SAFETY EMPLOYEES

     This act would provide that payments for injuries in the line-of-duty, issued as part of the

2

collective bargaining agreement between the state of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island

3

department of corrections, shall not be subject to taxation under chapter 30 of title 44.

4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
