It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 42-102-13 of the General Laws in Chapter 42-102 entitled |
2 | "Governor's Workforce Board Rhode Island" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
3 | 42-102-13. Non-trade apprenticeship incentive program. |
4 | (a) The workforce board shall fund a non-trade apprenticeship incentive program for |
5 | industries identified and approved by the board, including, but not limited to, fisheries. This |
6 | program shall meet the standards of apprenticeship programs defined pursuant to § 28-45-9. The |
7 | workforce board shall present the program to the state apprenticeship council, established |
8 | pursuant to chapter 45 of title 28, for review and consideration. |
9 | (b) Program incentive. For each apprentice enrolled in a non-trade apprenticeship |
10 | program subsequent to January 1, 2016, the workforce board shall establish a reimbursement |
11 | incentive program, in accordance with the following provisions: |
12 | (1) The maximum amount that any one employer may receive for one or more |
13 | apprentices within any twelve-month (12) period under the terms of this section is five thousand |
14 | dollars ($5,000); and |
15 | (2) An employer shall not be eligible for the incentive reimbursement for an apprentice |
16 | under the terms of this section until after the completion of the probationary period required |
17 | pursuant to § 28-45-9(2)(viii). |
18 | (c) The non-trade apprenticeship incentive program shall be funded with general revenue |

1 | through the workforce development services program of the department of labor and training. |
2 | (d) In order to fully implement the provisions of this section, the workforce board is |
3 | authorized to promulgate rules and regulations in consultation with the state apprenticeship |
4 | council. The rules and regulations shall include how industries are identified and approved for |
5 | participation in the program created by this section. |
6 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
