EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF DR. CATHERINE M.

SHANNON

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Dr.

2

Catherine M. Shannon, devoted mother of Michael Sligar and his wife, Jane Duket, and the

3

beloved grandmother of Annabelle Sligar; and

4

     WHEREAS, Catherine Shannon grew up in the City of Worcester, the daughter of Dr.

5

Paul and Margaret Shannon, and the sister of Paul Shannon, and Dr. Michael Shannon and his

6

wife, Carolyn. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle, earned a Ph.D. in Anatomy

7

from Tufts University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Case Western Reserve

8

University in Cleveland; and

9

     WHEREAS, Upon completing her postdoctoral fellowship, Dr. Shannon began her

10

esteemed academic career, teaching at Case Western, Temple University, the University of

11

Louisville, and Brown University. She subsequently continued her education, attaining her

12

Medical Degree from the University of Louisville in 1984, followed by an internship and a

13

residency in Radiology at St. Vincent Hospital, and a fellowship at the University of

14

Massachusetts; and

15

     WHEREAS, For more than fifteen years, Dr. Shannon was a radiologist affiliated with

16

Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, South County Hospital in

17

Wakefield, and Kent County Hospital in Warwick. In 2007, she moved to Albuquerque, New

18

Mexico, where she worked for six years with Radiology Associates of Albuquerque until retiring

19

in 2013; and

     WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished years in both academia and medicine, Dr.

2

Shannon was an ultimate professional whose integrity and dedication enriched and saved the lives

3

of those who were fortunate enough to be part of her illustrious life and career, and she will be

4

greatly missed; now, therefore be it

5

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

6

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Dr. Catherine M. Shannon; and be it

7

further

8

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

9

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Michael Sligar and Family.
