EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF RAYMOND R. CODERRE | |

1 | WHEREAS, Raymond R. Coderre, the devoted husband for fifty-one years to the |
2 | Honorable Elaine Coderre, a former member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, |
3 | passed away on April 18, 2019, in Ormond Beach, Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer; |
4 | and |
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Coderre was born in 1945 to the late Russell and Emily Coderre. He |
6 | grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Pawtucket with his three brothers, Joseph, William, |
7 | and Paul. He was a talented athlete who played football and ran track at Saint Raphael Academy |
8 | before graduating in 1963. He also served our nation with honor and integrity for six years as a |
9 | member of the Rhode Island National Guard from which he received an Honorable Discharge as |
10 | a Specialist 4th Class. As a member of the Guard, he served as a Select Reserve Combat Engineer |
11 | with the 118th Dump Truck Support Group; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Coderre was a dedicated family man who worked hard to provide for |
13 | his loved ones. His first jobs were at Burger Chef in East Providence, with the Providence Braid |
14 | Company, and as a manager for Newport Creamery from 1968 to 1975, but he spent most of his |
15 | distinguished professional career working as a business analyst for nearly thirty years with the |
16 | Jewelers Board of Trade. He was also active with the National Association of Credit Managers |
17 | where he was voted Credit Executive of the Year in 1992. He also served the citizens of our State |
18 | and the Rhode Island General Assembly with distinction as an auditor with the Rhode Island |
19 | Auditor General’s Office; and |
20 | WHEREAS, Mr. Coderre initially attended Bryant University after graduating from High |

1 | School but had to leave due to family responsibilities. He returned to Bryant University after |
2 | raising his children and attained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1989 with a major in marketing. |
3 | He was the first member of his family to graduate high school or college; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Coderre was well-known and admired for his honesty, integrity, ethical |
5 | leadership, and his many years of devoted service to the community. He was a member of the |
6 | Junior Chamber of Commerce, where he served as the President of the Pawtucket Jaycees and as |
7 | District Director for the Rhode Island Jaycees. He received many national, regional, and local |
8 | awards in recognition of his tireless service to the Jaycees, and in 1981, he was inducted into the |
9 | United States Jaycees Hall of Fame. His most treasured achievement with the Jaycees occurred in |
10 | 1979 when he was named JCI Senator #27406 and life member, the highest honor that is |
11 | bestowed by the Junior Chamber International for Outstanding Service to the organization; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Coderre was also a member of the Knights of Columbus-Father |
13 | Eamonn Gill Council 13018 at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church in Ormond Beach, |
14 | Florida, and previously of the Delaney Council 57 in Pawtucket. Mr. Coderre was a passionate |
15 | fan of the New England sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox, Pawtucket Red Sox, and the |
16 | New England Patriots. He and his wife vacationed every year at the Sunrise Beach Club in |
17 | Daytona Beach, where they chose to retire in 2015. In retirement, he enjoyed attending Daytona |
18 | Tortugas baseball games, playing in the Greater Daytona Beach Senior Softball League, spending |
19 | time at the YMCA, the Senior Center, and attending concerts and lectures in Florida. He also |
20 | continued to remain active in the JCI Senate; and |
21 | WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Mr. Coderre leaves behind his children, Bob Coderre |
22 | and his wife, Neicy, the Honorable Tom Coderre, Karen Barber and her husband, Calvin, his six |
23 | grandchildren, Joey, Hannah, Jack, David, Calvin, and Sashi, and his great-granddaughter Elora |
24 | Grace; and |
25 | WHEREAS, Mr. Coderre leaves behind a rich legacy of achievement and community |
26 | service. He was a devoted family man and a beloved figure within the community. He will be |
27 | sorely missed by his family and his many friends and will live on in the hearts of all who knew |
28 | and loved him; now, therefore be it |
29 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
30 | hereby expresses its deepest condolences to the Coderre Family on the passing of Raymond R. |
31 | Coderre; and be it further |
