S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING COLONEL DANIEL J. BARZYKOWSKI ON BEING NAMED THE

POLICE CHIEF OF THE CENTRAL FALLS POLICE DEPARTMENT

     WHEREAS, Colonel Daniel J. Barzykowski began his distinguished public service career

2

in 1995 when he assumed a position as a Correctional Officer at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention

3

Facility. His duties included being responsible for the day-to-day security operations of the

4

facility and the safety and security of the detainee population; and

5

     WHEREAS, In December of 1999, Colonel Barzykowski joined the Central Falls Police

6

Department and was assigned to the Patrol Division. In 2004, he was assigned to the

7

Prosecution/Detective Division where he was responsible for conducting criminal investigations

8

and assisting in the prosecution of violators of state and local laws; and

9

     WHEREAS, Thanks to his tireless work ethic, exemplary leadership qualities, and

10

abiding integrity, Colonel Barzykowski quickly earned the respect of his colleagues and

11

superiors, and rapidly rose through the ranks. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2007,

12

and was assigned to the Day Shift platoon as Supervisor. In 2011, he was promoted to the rank of

13

Lieutenant and was assigned to the Night Platoon as Supervisor. In 2012, he was promoted to the

14

rank of Captain and was assigned to the position of Administrative Commander in charge of

15

Professional Standards and Training, and in 2013, he was promoted to the rank of Major and was

16

named the Field Operations Commander, where he was responsible for the oversight of the Patrol

17

Division and Investigative Bureau; and

18

     WHEREAS, While serving as a Police Officer, Colonel Barzykowski also attended

19

college and various specialized training classes and programs. In 2014, he earned a Bachelor of

Science degree from Roger Williams University and in 2017, he attained a Master’s degree in

2

Business Administration from Salve Regina University. Colonel Barzykowski also graduated

3

from the Background Criminal Investigation School at the University of Rhode Island in 2006,

4

and the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy Session in 2016; and

5

     WHEREAS, Colonel Barzykowski is a certified instructor in numerous law enforcement

6

specialties. He is an ASP Tactical Handcuff Instructor, an ASP Tactical Baton Instructor, a Taser

7

Instructor, a L.O.C.K.U.P. (Law Officer Control Kinetic Unarmed Panoply) Instructor, and a PPC

8

OCAT (Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training) Instructor. He also served as the Lead Use of

9

Force Instructor from 2009 to 2013 at the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy; and

10

     WHEREAS, Colonel Barzykowski is a member and supporter of numerous professional

11

affiliations and charitable organizations including serving on the Board of Trustees for the RFS

12

Scholarships Program, as the Community Coordinator for the Central Falls Holiday Express, as

13

past President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #2, as past Commander of the Central Falls

14

Police Honor Guard, as a Peer Support Counselor for the Central Falls Police Department, as a

15

past Police Liaison for the Rhode Island Special Olympics, and as the past President of the Rhode

16

Island Chapter, Defenders LE MC; now, therefore be it

17

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

18

hereby congratulates Colonel Daniel J. Barzykowski on being named the Police Chief of the City

19

of Central Falls. We thank him for his many years of distinguished service as a public safety and

20

law enforcement professional and wish him well as he fulfills his new duties, responsibilities and

21

obligations; and be it further

22

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

23

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Colonel Daniel J. Barzykowski, Police Chief,

24

Central Falls.
