     STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2019

____________

S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF CECELIA A. IANNAZZI

Introduced By: Senators Ruggerio, McCaffrey, Goodwin, Lynch Prata, and Gallo

     Date Introduced: June 27, 2019

Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration

1

WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Cecelia

2

A. "Cis" Iannazzi, resident of Smithfield and West Palm Beach, Florida, and the beloved wife for

3

fifty-three years to the late Pasquale Iannazzi; and

4

WHEREAS, Cecelia Iannazzi, was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen Romano

5

and the sister of the late Ralph F. Romano and Dr. Michael Romano. She was formerly a

6

longtime resident of the City of Providence and had attended Providence public schools. Cecelia

7

proudly served Rhode Island College and its Student Body as Chief Clerk of Records until her

8

retirement in 1989; and

9

WHEREAS, Cis was blessed with many friends and a loving family who adored her. She

10

was the cherished mother of Jo-Ann Doyle and her husband, George, Donald S. Iannazzi and his

11

wife, Ann Marie, and Helynn M. Baxter and her husband, J. Joseph. She was also the very proud

12

grandmother of John Calcagni, Andrea Iannazzi, Michael Calcagni, Stephen Iannazzi, Ashley

13

Lemieux, Joseph Baxter and Samantha Baxter, and the great-grandmother of Cecelia Lemieux;

14

and

15

WHEREAS, Cis enjoyed her retirement by spending the winters in Florida, serving as the

16

unofficial Mayor of the pool at the Palm Club II development. She could be found there almost

17

any day of the week, usually finishing the reading of another book in record time. If she was not

18

holding court by the pool, she could surely be found on the couch glued to the Hallmark Channel,

19

watching one of her favorite movies that she had most likely seen many times before; and

20

WHEREAS, Christmas was Cis's favorite time of year, so much so that each year, it

1

would come twice; once in December, and again in July for Hallmark's "Christmas in July"; and

2

WHEREAS, Cis passed down many traditions to her children and grandchildren,

3

including a love for Frank Sinatra. Her home was a place where everyone wanted to be. There

4

was always something on the stove, Golden Girls on the TV, good conversation to be had, and of

5

course endless laughs. No matter what was going on, time seemed to stop at 5 o'clock for, of

6

course, "Happy Hour"; and

7

WHEREAS, The countless memories that Cecelia Iannazzi leaves behind are a sign of

8

the great life that she lived. She will be sorely missed by her friends and family, and she will

9

continue to live on in their hearts and memories forever; now, therefore be it

10

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

11

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies to the entire Iannazzi Family on the passing of Cecelia

12

A. Iannazzi; and be it further

13

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

14

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Jo-Ann Doyle, Donald S. Iannazzi and Helynn

15

M. Baxter.
