EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES TO THE CARDI FAMILY ON THE PASSING OF | |
NICHOLAS CARDI, JR. | |

1 | WHEREAS, Nicholas Cardi, Jr., a renowned businessman, and well-known Co-owner, |
2 | together with his brothers Ron and Pete, of Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses, the Rhode Island |
3 | Design Center, and Ashley HomeStores, passed away at home after a more than four year brave |
4 | and courageous fight with brain cancer; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cardi grew up in Cranston, attended the Community College of Rhode |
6 | Island and graduated from the University of Tennessee, and was a distinguished veteran of the |
7 | United States Army Reserve; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cardi, together with his brothers Ron and Pete, utilized their collective |
9 | energy and innovative thinking to make Cardi’s Furniture and Mattresses arguably the most |
10 | successful, respected and renowned business in Rhode Island and Southern New England. Their |
11 | commercials became famous for their gentle and amusing humor and their family-oriented sales |
12 | approach; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Mr. Cardi was particularly good at sourcing goods, teaching the philosophy |
14 | of customer-centric sales and customer service, and in his roles as a sales trainer and leader. More |
15 | importantly, he was someone who cared deeply about others and the wider community. He |
16 | worked tirelessly in support of numerous charities, and educational and nonprofit organizations in |
17 | Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and across the nation and globe, including the |
18 | Meeting Street School, the Ronald McDonald House, AIDS Project RI, the Little Flower Home, |
19 | and the Alzheimer’s Association; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Mr Cardi leaves behind his wife, Julia, son, Nicholas Cardi III, mother, |
2 | Marion Cardi, and brothers, Ron Cardi and his wife, Maria, and Pete Cardi and his wife, Diana. |
3 | He also leaves behind brother-in-law, Arthur Zompa, Sr., nieces Victoria Cardi, Isabella Cardi, |
4 | Rachel Cardi, Lisa Zompa Dupuis and husband, Dennis, nephew Michael Cardi, and grand- |
5 | nephew Garrett Dupuis. Mr. Cardi was predeceased by his father, Nicholas Cardi, Sr., his sister, |
6 | Sandra Zompa and nephew, Arthur Zompa Jr.; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr Cardi was a devoted family man. In his free time, he enjoyed travelling, |
8 | and spending time at Rhode Island beaches with his family and many friends; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
10 | Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences to the Cardi Family on the passing of |
11 | Nicholas Cardi, Jr; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mrs. Julia Cardi and Family. |
