EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE CLINTON | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this House has learned of the passing of the |
2 | Honorable Clinton Owen Remington, III, on August 16, 2019. He was the son of the late Clinton |
3 | and Elizabeth Remington, and the beloved husband for forty-six years to Susan Remington; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Remington was a graduate of Burrillville High School in 1963, and |
5 | attained a Bachelor’s degree from Williams College in 1967. After graduating from college, he |
6 | served our nation with honor as a member of the United States Army from 1967 to 1970; and |
7 | WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Remington attained a Masters of Business |
8 | Administration from Bryant College in 1976, and embarked on a distinguished business career. |
9 | He served as the President and CEO of Remington Lumber Company for many years and, |
10 | subsequently, served as a District Manager for the Ace Hardware Corporation until his retirement |
11 | in 2015; and |
12 | WHEREAS, In 1984, Mr. Remington was elected in Burrillville to the Rhode Island |
13 | House of Representatives, and went on to serve his constituents and the State of Rhode Island |
14 | with integrity for ten years. He rose to the position of Vice Chair of the House Committee on |
15 | Labor, and as the Secretary of the Joint Committee on Small Business. As a State Representative, |
16 | he was well-respected for his knowledge and understanding of business-related issues, and was a |
17 | leader on legislation related to economic development; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Mr. Remington served on many important civic, industry and charitable |
19 | committees and associations including the Government Affairs Committee of the Northern Rhode |

1 | Island Chamber of Commerce, the American Cancer Society, Rhode Island Democratic State |
2 | Committee, the Burrillville Democratic Town Committee, the Rhode Island Lumber and Building |
3 | Material Dealers Association, the Northeastern Retail Lumber Dealers Association, the |
4 | Burrillville Lions Club, and the Harrisville Fire District Operation Committee; and |
5 | WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Susan, Mr. Remington leaves behind his children, |
6 | Kelly Bristol and her husband, Ian, Kristene Morgan and her husband, Daniel, Clinton |
7 | Remington, IV, and John Remington and his wife, Elizabeth Lordan. He also leaves behind his |
8 | grandchildren, Grace, John, Sofie, Aidan, Matthew, Fletcher, and Mackenzie, and many nieces |
9 | and nephews. Mr. Remington was predeceased by his sisters, Judith Parsons, Janice Faucett, and |
10 | Joyce McKenna; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mr. Remington did much for his community and the State of Rhode Island, |
12 | but his first priority was always his family and friends. He was a true gentleman with a kind and |
13 | caring disposition. He was also the "Remington Historian" where he was the keeper of the stories |
14 | and family traditions that were unique to the Remington Family. He had a great memory and |
15 | would often astound people with his ability to recall prior moments in family history, such as |
16 | particular meals at restaurants or having taken a certain path before in order to get to a particular |
17 | destination. Mr. Remington’s passing is a grievous loss to his family and many friends and his |
18 | memory and the life he led will long endure in the hearts of all who knew him; now, therefore be |
19 | it |
20 | RESOLVED, This House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence |
21 | Plantations hereby expresses its condolences to the Remington Family on the passing of the |
22 | Honorable Clinton Owen Remington, III; and be it further |
23 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
24 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Susan Remington. |
