RELATING TO EDUCATION -- SCHOOL COMMITTEES AND SUPERINTENDENTS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 16-2-19 of the General Laws in Chapter 16-2 entitled "School |
2 | Committees and Superintendents [See Title 16 Chapter 97 - The Rhode Island Board of |
3 | Education Act]" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
4 | 16-2-19. Children attending in adjoining cities or towns. |
5 | Whenever the school committee of any city or town shall find that it is more convenient |
6 | or expedient for any child residing in the city or town to attend school in an adjoining city or |
7 | town, the committee may arrange with the school authorities of the city or town for the |
8 | attendance of the child at their schools, and may pay for the tuition out of the city or town |
9 | appropriation for public schools. The amount paid shall be used for school purposes only, and |
10 | shall not exceed the local per pupil funding amount of said adjoining city or town as calculated by |
11 | the department of education. |
12 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
