EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF DANIEL P. MURPHY

     WHEREAS, Daniel P. Murphy of Coventry, passed away on August 23, 2019, after a

2

courageous battle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Patricia Murphy for twenty-eight

3

years; and

4

     WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy graduated from Rhode Island College with a degree in English

5

and from the University of Rhode Island with a Master’s degree in Library Science. For nearly

6

two decades, he worked as a reference librarian for the Coventry Public Library. He was also a

7

talented writer who had just completed his first novel; and

8

     WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy was a beloved member of the community who was widely

9

admired for his jovial personality, his great wit, his ability to make people laugh, and for being a

10

great conversationalist and storyteller. He was passionate about jazz and other forms of music,

11

history, and reading. He was also known for his sartorial style which included his signature bow-

12

ties, and for swimming and hiking frequently near Johnson’s Pond with his beloved Golden

13

Retriever Rango; and

14

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Patricia, Mr. Murphy leaves behind his mother

15

Margaret, his godson Alejandro Camerena, his brother-in-law Douglas Olney, his sister-in-law

16

Catherine Olney-Vincent and his brother-in-law Scott Vincent and their daughter Stephanie, and

17

his in-laws Douglas and Helen Olney. He also leaves behind his sister Marianne Murphy and her

18

son, Jordan, his sister Christine Foley Murphy and her daughters Rebecca and Brynn and his

19

brother Matthew Murphy, sister-in-law Laura and their children Noah and Scarlett. He also leaves

20

behind Maria Gomez, whom he considered to be a beloved mother, and his good friends Kathleen

St. Pierre and Gicela Baez, whom he considered to be his sisters; and

2

     WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy will be forever remembered by his loved ones and many

3

friends for the abundant joy he brought to their lives on a daily basis and for his numerous acts of

4

kindness bestowed on so many people. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him;

5

now, therefore be it

6

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

7

Providence Plantations hereby expresses its condolences to the Murphy Family on the passing of

8

Daniel P. Murphy; and be it further

9

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

10

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Patricia Murphy and Family.
