A N   A C T

RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES - LIGHTING EQUIPMENT

     Introduced By: Representatives Canario, Noret, Morin, Vella-Wilkinson, and Edwards

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 31-24-27 of the General Laws in Chapter 31-24 entitled "Lighting

Equipment and Reflectors" is hereby amended to read as follows:

     31-24-27. Display of lighted lamps required.

     (a) At all times specified in § 31-24-1, at least two (2) lighted lamps shall be displayed

one on each side at the front of every motor vehicle other than a motorcycle or motor-driven

cycle, except when the vehicle is parked subject to the regulations governing lights on parked

vehicles.

     (b) Front lighted lamps displayed in the front of every motor vehicle provided as original

equipment from the manufacturer shall not be replaced by different lamps that project a beam of

light greater than the intensity of the original equipment.

     (c) Violations of this section are subject to fines enumerated in § 31-41.1-4.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would prohibit the replacement of original equipment from manufacturer front

light lamps that project a beam of light greater than the intensity of the original lamps.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
