CONGRATULATING JASON GRAMITT ON BEING ELECTED AS PRESIDENT OF THE | |
COUNCIL ON GOVERNMENTAL ETHICS LAWS (COGEL) | |

1 | WHEREAS, Jason Gramitt, Executive Director and Chief Prosecutor of the Rhode Island |
2 | Ethics Commission, has earned the honor and distinction of being elected President of the |
3 | Council on Governmental Ethics Laws (COGEL); and |
4 | WHEREAS, COGEL, an international organization officially formed in 1978, is a |
5 | professional organization for government agencies and other associations working in ethics, |
6 | elections, freedom of information, lobbying, and campaign finance. The organization assists |
7 | various agencies by providing information about statutory and regulatory functions, budgets and |
8 | names of personnel, and by working as a coordinator to expand communication between |
9 | governmental ethics agencies and commissions; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Mr. Gramitt is eminently qualified to embrace his new role as President of |
11 | COGEL. He is a graduate of Ohio University, Roger Williams University School of Law, and |
12 | Harvard Kennedy School. From 1996 through 1998, he was a staff attorney in the Appellate |
13 | Screening Unit of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. In 1998, he took a position as an attorney |
14 | with the Criminal Appeals Panel of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, and was also actively |
15 | practicing law at Winograd, Shine & Zacks, P.C.; and |
16 | WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Gramitt has been an Adjunct Faculty member at the |
17 | University of Rhode Island, an Adjunct Faculty member at Johnson & Wales University, was an |
18 | attorney and Education Coordinator with the Rhode Island Ethics Commission beginning in 2001, |
19 | and is currently the Executive Director and Chief Prosecutor for the Rhode Island Ethics |

2 | WHEREAS, Mr. Gramitt is a paradigm of the very best legal and leadership qualities and |
3 | he is truly worthy of our praise and acknowledgement; now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
5 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Jason Gramitt on being elected as President of |
6 | COGEL. We furthermore wish him continued success, fulfillment, and good health; and be it |
7 | further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
