It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Section 42-72-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 42-72 entitled "Department |
2 | of Children, Youth and Families" is hereby amended to read as follows: |
3 | 42-72-1. Establishment of department -- Director. |
4 | (a) There is established within the executive branch of state government a department of |
5 | children, youth, and families. |
6 | (b) The head of the department shall be the director of children, youth, and families, who |
7 | shall be a person qualified by training and experience to perform the duties of the office, in |
8 | accordance with ยง 42-72-4. |
9 | (c) The director shall be in the unclassified service, appointed by the governor with the |
10 | advice and consent of the senate, and shall hold office for a term of four (4) five (5) years and |
11 | shall continue to hold office until his or her successor is appointed and qualified., unless removed |
12 | from office pursuant to the provisions of this section. The director may be removed from office at |
13 | any time prior to the expiration of the director's term, with or without cause, by the governor with |
14 | the advice and consent of the senate. The director shall receive a salary as provided by law. |
15 | The director is further authorized and directed to provide to the governor, the speaker of |
16 | the house and the president of the senate, no later than October 1, 1991, a comprehensive and |
17 | detailed plan to restructure the department of children, youth, and families. The plan will be |
18 | developed in close cooperation with the special legislative task force to investigate the |

2 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

1 | This act would provide for a five (5) year term for the director of DCYF or until his or |
2 | her successor is appointed and qualified, unless the governor with advice and consent of the |
3 | senate removes the director prior to the expiration of the director's term. |
4 | This act would take effect upon passage. |
