	A N A C T
	RELATING TO DOMESTIC RELATIONS -- SOLEMNIZATION OF MARRIAGES

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Chapter 15-3 of the General Laws entitled "Solemnization of Marriages" is
2	hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
3	15-3-5.1. City/town clerks to appoint individuals to solemnize marriages.
4	(a) Notwithstanding §15-3-5, the clerks of the various cities and towns are empowered to
5	appoint individuals to solemnize marriages.
6	(b) The clerks shall design a form for the application of the parties to sign and name the
7	individual(s) to solemnize marriages.
8	(c) The city/town clerk shall charge a fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for the
9	solemnization form.
10	(d) The clerk shall issue a certificate for the individual(s) to perform the solemnization of
11	the marriage.
12	(e) The certificate for solemnization shall expire after ninety (90) days.
13	(f) The parties seeking an individual(s) to solemnize the marriage shall present a marriage
14	license pursuant to chapter 2 of title 15.
15	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
