RELATING TO COMMERCIAL LAW--GENERAL REGULATORY PROVISIONS --

DECEPTIVE TRADE PRACTICES

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Canario, Shekarchi, Jacquard, Kennedy, and Craven

     Date Introduced: March 12, 2020

     Referred To: House Judiciary

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 6-13.1 of the General Laws entitled "Deceptive Trade Practices" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     6-13.1-31. Discrimination prohibited.

     It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, partnership, corporation or association to

5

discriminate or fail or refuse to engage in business or sell a product or service to include, but not

6

be limited to, consumer, banking, insurance and/or professional services, goods or products, to any

7

person based on political affiliation, political position, status as an entertainer, or because the person

8

engages in any other lawful employment position or occupation.

9

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would make it an unlawful practice to discriminate in the sale of a product or

service based on a person's lawful employment or political affiliation/position.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
