CONGRATULATING MR. RICHARD N. HARRIS, MSW, LICSW, ON HIS RETIREMENT | |
AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE RHODE ISLAND CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL | |
ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS, AFTER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED | |
SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Richard Harris, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, and |
2 | Executive Director of the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers |
3 | (NASW) since July of 2002, is retiring after many years of distinguished service in the human |
4 | resources field; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Mr. Harris attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of |
6 | Rhode Island and a Master of Social Work Degree from Rhode Island College. Mr. Harris is a |
7 | Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and is |
8 | also a Certified Vocational Evaluator and Job Placement Specialist. He was also a Certified |
9 | Rehabilitation Counselor for many years; and |
10 | WHEREAS, For more than thirty years, Mr. Harris has practiced both clinically and |
11 | administratively in numerous settings including the fields of child welfare services, mental health, |
12 | rehabilitation services, and grant writing. In his capacity as the Executive Director of the Rhode |
13 | Island Chapter of the NASW, he fought tenaciously in support of programs for the poor, LGBTQ |
14 | rights, women’s equality, immigrant rights, civil rights, and mental health and disability rights; |
15 | and |
16 | WHEREAS, For the past sixteen years, Mr. Harris has served as an Adjunct Professor at |
17 | Rhode Island College. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Salve Regina University and worked for |
18 | years at Boston University as the Faculty Liaison for students placed in Rhode Island; |

1 | WHEREAS, Richard Harris has worked tirelessly throughout his life advocating on |
2 | behalf of the less fortunate and the needy. Many lives were helped immeasurably thanks to Mr. |
3 | Harris’s passionate belief that society has a moral obligation to offer a lending hand to those |
4 | living in the shadows of life; now, therefore, be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
6 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Mr. Richard Harris on his retirement as the |
7 | Executive Director of the National Association of Social Workers, Rhode Island Chapter, after |
8 | many years of dedicated service to the people of Rhode Island; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Richard Harris. |
