EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ALEXANDER | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the untimely passing |
2 | of Alexander Aurrichio, the cherished son of Lou and Jill Aurrichio, and the beloved brother of |
3 | Michael, Chris, John, and Jillian; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Alex was born an extraordinarily large baby, giving him the early moniker |
5 | of “Alex the Great.” It was a nickname he would live up to throughout his life; and |
6 | WHEREAS, During his school years at Half Hollow Hills West High School, Alex chose |
7 | to play three sports, soccer, basketball, and baseball, and excelled at each of them. He was an |
8 | All-American in soccer, a Newsday All-Long Island baseball selection, earned Suffolk’s Gold |
9 | Glove Award, and the Butch Dellecave Award, which is given to Suffolk’s top scholar-athlete, |
10 | and these were just a few of his many athletic accomplishments; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Doubly blessed, Alex was also an outstanding student, earning entrance into |
12 | Columbia University where he maintained a 3.7 GPA while starting on the men’s soccer and |
13 | baseball teams where he was a two-time All-Ivy League selection, including a first-team honoree |
14 | as a sophomore; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Alex grew up in Dix Hills, which is a Hamlet in Long Island, New York. |
16 | After graduating from Columbia, he moved halfway around the globe to Australia in 2014, with |
17 | the dream of pursuing a career in the Australian Football League; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Fondly called “Rooch” by his teammates and Aussie friends, Alex |
19 | represented numerous clubs across Australia and had most recently played for the Waratah |

1 | Football Club in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL), where he quickly became a fan |
2 | favorite; and |
3 | WHEREAS, The athletic achievements and titles that Alex had accumulated throughout |
4 | his lifetime do not fully pay homage to the man that he was. Accolades from those who knew |
5 | him paint a more vivid and heartwarming picture of a wonderful, endearing, and fearless person |
6 | who “got the most out of every day and the most out of everyone,” was “fearless and pushed the |
7 | limits” and had a “personality and smile that were even larger than he was”; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Alex’s life was a celebration that ended far too soon, but he will always be |
9 | remembered for living his life to the fullest. He was dearly loved and admired, and he will |
10 | remain in the hearts of all who shared in his glorious adventure; now, therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
12 | Providence Plantations hereby extends its deepest sympathies on the passing of Alexander |
13 | Aurrichio; and be it further |
14 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
15 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Lou and Jill Aurrichio and Family. |
