WELCOMING DR. JUNG-YUL CHOI, THE PRESIDENT OF THE LIONS CLUBS | |
INTERNATIONAL, AND HIS WIFE SEUNG-BOK YANG, TO THE STATE OF RHODE | |

1 | WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1917, the Lions Clubs International (LCI) has more |
2 | than fulfilled its motto of “we serve.” Its more than 1.4 million members and 46,000 clubs |
3 | serving more than 200 countries, work tirelessly to promote the principles of good government |
4 | and good citizenship and to support important causes such as hospice, youth outreach, |
5 | international relations, environmental issues and health issues, especially health issues related to |
6 | the blind and vision-impaired population; and |
7 | WHEREAS, President Jung-Yul Choi of Busan, South Korea, was elected to serve as the |
8 | International Lions Clubs President at the Association’s 102nd International Convention held in |
9 | Milan, Italy. President Choi has been a member of the Busan Jae-il Lions Club since 1977, and |
10 | has held many offices, including the positions of Club President, Cabinet Secretary, District |
11 | Governor and International Director. He served numerous times as a DGE Group Leader and on |
12 | eleven committees as a member of the International Board of Directors. Additionally, President |
13 | Choi was Chairperson of the 39th OSEAL Forum in 2000 and was a host committee Chairperson |
14 | at the 95th Lions International Convention in Busan, South Korea, in 2012, the largest convention |
15 | held in Lions history; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Building upon the Lions' long and admirable history of supporting the blind |
17 | and vision-impaired persons, President Choi, in his visits to various nations across the globe, will |
18 | be focusing on the Lions International new endeavors with diabetes research since diabetes |
19 | causes blindness; and |

1 | WHEREAS, In honor of his meritorious service to the Lions International, President Choi |
2 | has received many awards including the Humanitarian Partnership Award, the Senior Master Key |
3 | Award, numerous International President’s Leadership Awards and International President’s |
4 | Awards, and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Lions |
5 | Clubs International; and |
6 | WHEREAS, President Choi, in addition to his Lions Clubs responsibilities, serves as the |
7 | Chief Executive of the Koala Company, Ltd., and is a past Director of the Busan Sports |
8 | Association. President Choi and his wife are the parents of five children and the grandparents of |
9 | two grandchildren; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
11 | Providence Plantations hereby welcomes Dr. Jung-Yul Choi, the Lions Clubs International |
12 | President, and his wife, Seung-Bok Yang to the State of Rhode Island; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Dr. Jung-Yul Choi, the Lions Clubs |
15 | International President. |
