EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF COMMANDER WILLIAM F. | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of |
2 | Commander William F. Bundy, Ph.D., US Navy Ret., devoted husband of Jeanne Bundy, beloved |
3 | father of William, Raymond, and Andrena, and the proud grandfather of Matthew, Eleanor and |
4 | Annalise; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Bundy was a graduate of the Baltimore City College and held advanced |
6 | degrees from Salve Regina University, the Naval War College, and the University of Hawaii; and |
7 | WHEREAS, For more than forty years, Commander Bundy served our country with |
8 | honor and distinction. After enlisting in the Navy, he rose to the rank of Chief Sonar Technician |
9 | (Submarines) and was subsequently commissioned as a Naval Officer. During his tenure in the |
10 | Navy, he held various positions including Command of a submarine, the Director of the Naval |
11 | Officer Candidate School, and upon his retirement from active duty, had been a Commander and |
12 | later served as an Associate Provost at the US Naval War College; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Commander Bundy achieved numerous recognitions during his service. He |
14 | was a member of the Centennial Seven - one of the first seven African Americans to command |
15 | one of our nation's submarines in the first 100 years of the nation's submarine force, earned a |
16 | Defense Meritorious Service Award and a Meritorious Service Award in addition to over twenty |
17 | other personal, unit, campaign, and service medals, and was recognized with the 1993 Black |
18 | Engineer of the Year Award and honored with the US Navy League's Dalton L. Baugh Award; |

1 | WHEREAS, In addition to his military service, Dr. Bundy had served as the Director of |
2 | the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, was a FleetBoston Financial Executive, and was |
3 | an adjunct professor at Providence College and Salve Regina University. He had also served on |
4 | numerous local and national boards of directors; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Bundy was a devoted family man, a mentor to all, and a role model to |
6 | many. He will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
8 | hereby extends deepest condolences on the passing of Commander William F. Bundy, Ph.D., US |
9 | Navy Ret.; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Jeanne Bundy and Family. |
