S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MR. FRANCIS P. O'DONNELL

     WHEREAS, Francis P. O'Donnell passed away on December 9, 2019. He was the

2

beloved husband of the late Kathryne M. O'Donnell for fifty-eight years; and

3

     WHEREAS, Mr. O'Donnell was born in Providence, the son of the late Joseph and Mary

4

O'Donnell. A 1943 graduate of La Salle Academy and a member of the football team, Mr.

5

O'Donnell went on to attend Providence College, where he graduated in 1946 with a degree in

6

accounting. He then proceeded to embark on a highly successful and distinguished career as a

7

Public Accountant for sixty years during which he owned his own business, and worked for the

8

Rhode Island Division of Taxation with integrity and distinction for twenty years; and

9

     WHEREAS, Mr. O'Donnell was devoted to his Catholic faith and devoted much of his

10

life in service to others. He was a Church Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Choir Member for

11

numerous churches including Blessed Sacrament Church in Providence, St. Maria Goretti in

12

Pawtucket, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Providence, and St. Thomas More and St. Veronica's in

13

Narragansett. Mr. O'Donnell also ministered to the sick and needy members of the community

14

through his work at Roger Williams Hospital and carved turkeys every Thanksgiving and

15

Christmas at St. Patrick's Church in Providence for many years; and

16

     WHEREAS, Mr. O'Donnell was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather

17

and friend who always put his family and faith first in his life. He made his community a better

18

place in which to live and will long be remembered by all who knew and loved him for his

19

kindness and many acts of charity; and

20

     WHEREAS, Mr. O'Donnell leaves behind his six children, Frank O'Donnell and his wife,

Karen, Maureen Pinksaw and her husband, John, James O'Donnell, Esq., and his wife, Lucille,

2

Retired State Police Colonel Steven O'Donnell and his wife, Holly, Thomas O'Donnell and his

3

wife, Katherine, and Kathleen O'Donnell-White and her husband, William. Mr. O'Donnell also

4

leaves behind his sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Jessica, Elyse, Caitlin, Meghan,

5

Kayla, Conor, Cody, Patrick, Kelsey, Brady, Keri, Christopher, Ryan, Dylan, Charlie, Molly and

6

Mya. Mr. O'Donnell was also the brother of Anne Galvin and the late Joseph A. O'Donnell, Jr.;

7

now, therefore be it

8

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

9

hereby expresses its condolences on the passing of Mr. Francis P. O’Donnell; and be it further

10

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

11

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Frank O'Donnell, Maureen Pinksaw, James

12

O'Donnell, Esq., Retired State Police Colonel Steven O'Donnell, Thomas O'Donnell, Kathleen

13

O'Donnell-White.
