EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF CHRISTOPHER J. DOHERTY | |

1 | WHEREAS, Mr. Christopher J. Doherty, formerly of Attleboro, and co-owner of the 19th |
2 | Hole Tavern, a beloved fixture in Hyannis, Massachusetts, passed away on December 20, 2019. |
3 | He was the son of Carol M. Doherty, RN, and the late Edward J. Doherty; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Doherty was a 1981 graduate of Bishop Feehan High School, where he |
5 | played basketball on the legendary team that went undefeated in his senior season. He always |
6 | cherished his time at Bishop Feehan and credited the wonderful nuns there for instilling in him |
7 | the values and virtues that guided him his entire life. Mr. Doherty also attended Providence |
8 | College; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Mr. Doherty was a gregarious and jovial individual who was born to run a |
10 | neighborhood pub. He was frequently seen outside his establishment, warmly greeting customers |
11 | with a smile on his face and a cigar in his mouth, especially on hot summer nights. He always had |
12 | a cheerful demeanor and disposition and was known for his kindness and willingness to help |
13 | anyone in need of assistance; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Mr. Doherty was a generous supporter of numerous public safety charities. |
15 | He was a sponsor of the Cape Cod Baseball League and was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier |
16 | Parish in Hyannis; and |
17 | WHEREAS, In addition to his mother, Carol M. Doherty, Mr. Doherty leaves behind his |
18 | brothers, Retired Clerk-Magistrate Edward J. Doherty and his wife, Joanne, and Retired Rhode |
19 | Island State Police Colonel Brendan P. Doherty and his wife, Michele. He also leaves behind his |
20 | nephew Matthew J. Doherty and his wife, Kristin, nieces Christine E. Ehlers and her husband, |

1 | Dan, and Kaitlin M. Wirth and her husband, Jonathan, and several great-nephews and nieces. He |
2 | also leaves behind his close companion, girlfriend Natalie Sanders; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Mr. Doherty’s passing is a tremendous loss for his loved ones and many |
4 | friends but the memory of his love, cheerfulness and compassion for others will long live on in |
5 | the hearts of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
7 | hereby expresses its condolences to the Doherty Family on the passing of Christopher J. Doherty; |
8 | and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Carol M. Doherty, Edward J. Doherty, and |
11 | Retired Rhode Island State Police Colonel Brendan P. Doherty. |
