S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE ERNEST

PITOCHELLI, SR.

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Ernest Pitochelli, Sr., passed away on January 13, 2020. He

was the beloved husband of Rita Pitochelli for sixty-nine years; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Pitochelli was born in Providence, a son of the late Ernest and Clara

Pitochelli. He served our nation with honor and distinction during the Korean War as a member

of the United States Army; and

     WHEREAS, Since his service, Mr. Pitochelli was very active in veterans’ organizations

and in support of veterans’ issues. He served as the AMVETS Post 9 Rhode Island State

Commander, as its National Finance Officer for twelve years, and was elected and appointed as

its National Commander from 1980 to 1981. He had the honor of meeting Presidents Jimmy

Carter and Ronald Reagan, as well as Pope John Paul II, while serving as a representative of

AMVETS; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Pitochelli was also very active in local politics in the Town of Johnston.

He served with integrity and tireless devotion on the Johnston Town Council for twelve years,

and was known for fighting for the rights of the individual and for always conducting himself in

an honorable fashion; and

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Rita, Mr. Pitochelli leaves behind his children,

Ernest Pitochelli, Jr., and his wife, Deborah, and Diana Pitochelli. He is also survived by his

grandchildren, Stephanie Pitochelli McVay, Ashley Pitochelli Iorfida and her husband, Mark Sr.,

and Jake Pitochelli and his husband, Michael Steinberg. He was also the step-grandfather of

Charles, Andrew, and Jonathan Wesley, and the great-grandfather Ariana Iorfida, Mark Iorfida,

Jr., Juliana McKay, and Joshua McKay. He was the brother of Edward Pitochelli, Anna Romano,

and the late Frank Pitochelli; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby expresses its condolences to the Pitochelli Family on the passing of the Honorable Ernest

Pitochelli, Sr.; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution Rita Pitochelli and Family.
