	RELATING TO HIGHWAYS -- RHODE ISLAND TURNPIKE AND BRIDGE AUTHORITY

	It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1	SECTION 1. Chapter 24-12 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Turnpike and
2	Bridge Authority" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
3	24-12-60. Safety barrier on bridges.
4	The department of transportation, in conjunction with the Rhode Island turnpike and
5	bridge authority, are hereby directed to erect a safety barrier and/or safety netting on the Mount
6	Hope Bridge, the Claiborne Pell Bridge, and the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge. The safety
7	barrier or netting shall be in place no later than January 1, 2022.
8	SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

	BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

1	This act would provide that the department of transportation, in conjunction with the
2	Rhode Island turnpike and bridge authority, would erect a safety barrier or safety netting on the
3	Mount Hope Bridge, the Claiborne Pell Bridge, and the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge. The
4	safety barrier or netting would be erected on or before January 1, 2022.
5	This act would take effect upon passage.
