HONORING AND CONGRATULATING JOSEPH CONNORS ON HIS RETIREMENT AS | |
AN EAST PROVIDENCE CITY SERGEANT | |

1 | WHEREAS, Joseph “Joey” Connors, a lifelong resident of East Providence, is retiring |
2 | after twenty-two years of exemplary and devoted service as a City Sergeant for East Providence, |
3 | beginning his service with the City Council in 1998, and later for the Municipal Court; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mr. Connors made history when he became the first Down Syndrome |
5 | person in the nation to serve as a United States Senate Page, after being appointed by then Rhode |
6 | Island United States Senator John Chaffee; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Connors has excelled for the past forty years as a Rhode Island Special |
8 | Olympian. He was given the high honor of lighting the Special Olympics torch at the 50-year |
9 | Rhode Island Special Olympics Anniversary in 2018, and has always represented our State and |
10 | the Special Olympics cause with passion and dignity; and |
11 | WHEREAS, It is fitting that the Mayor of East Providence, will be declaring February |
12 | 18, 2020, to be “Sergeant Joseph ‘Joey’ Connors Day” in the City of East Providence; now, |
13 | therefore be it |
14 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
15 | hereby honors and congratulates Joseph Connors on his retirement as an East Providence City |
16 | Sergeant; and be it further |
17 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is directed to transmit a duly |
